Packing tips!
You may want to consider rolling your clothes. Checkout this short clip on how to get the most of your space and level up your packing.
Make ‘match’ your middle name! When I travel I ensure every top and bottom mixes and matches.
Activewear is compact, light weight and will save you space in your suitcase. It can also be washed in the shower with you or in a hotel basin.
Try to limit your shoes, ideally to two pairs, but your itinerary may require more. Personally I love my Allbirds!
It's best to leave your valuables at home. However, if you do decide to take jewellery with you, check your insurance covers the full value.
Ensure you have a good multi-plug that works for all your different countries, and make sure you have all the correct chargers and that they work.
Utilise packing cubes. These nifty little cubes can help you arrange all our clothes in a neat and organised style. Better yet, prep your outfits for each day your away! Lots of retailers stock these, but check out Kmart - Last I checked they had a 7 piece set for under $20
Check you have all your medications in advance of your departure. Keep all medications in the original bottles with your name and ask your doctor for a list of your prescribed medication. Also be sure to keep your mediatcations in your hand luggage incase something goes wrong
Remember to take a laundry bag.
I've been using Wise for years to manage my funds, and it's been fantastic. If you're interested in trying it out, you can use my referral link to get a discount on your first transfer, and I'll receive a bonus. Here's the link: https://wise.com/invite/inh/debrak65
While you're away tips!
RFID wallets offer an extra layer of protection from card scanners that could potentially use paywave to steal your funds. You can also contact your bank to disable your paywave function on your cards if this is a cause for concern.
Always have more than one payment option. This will protect you from any unforeseen
situations where you face issues with your provider.
Be aware of your surroundings; pickpockets are prevalent around the world. Some parts
of cities and countries will be safer than others. Don’t take too much cash out at once or
store all your cards in one wallet. Choose a smaller wallet in which you can keep your
‘cash of the day’.
Have a VPN on your phone and stay away from using public WIFI. The security cannot
be guaranteed.
Make it look like you're in your hotel room. Place a 'Do not Disturb' sign on your door, this can be a good deterrent for potenial break ins.
Make digital and paper copies (laminated is even better) of your passport and driver's
licence and keep them on you. It is easier to replace your passport if you have a copy of
your existing one.
Be respectful of cultural differences; many countries have modesty laws on what it is
appropriate to wear and how to act. Do your research before you depart.
Learning key phrases in your destination's local language will enhance your trip greatly.
Duolingo and Google Translate are free options and can be downloaded from the app
store or Google Play.
