Before you go - Explore this List
Packing before a trip can be a lot, but don't stress! I've got some tips that have made it way easier for me. Check 'em out and make your travels a breeze.
House & Pet Sitter
Ensure someone is there to look after your furry friends and house. I recommend the New Zealand-based website Kiwi House Sitters. It's free to list an ad, but sitters pay a yearly fee and are identity verified.
Luggage
"You may need to Upgrade your suitcase"
A good start is to weigh your suitcase empty and see the actual weight. From here 'test drive' your case. Wheel it around and test movements that you would be doing in an airport or hotel. I love Voyager Luggage - "Get in touch with me to get the best deal"
Tracking Devices
Buy an Apple Tag or a Samsung Smart Tag. Put this somewhere in your suitcase and you’ll be able to track exactly where your luggage is should you encounter any issues.
After my harrowing experience of being caught in New Caledonia during May 2024 I learnt how important it is to Register your travel plans at safetravel.govt.nz. Further to this, you should also make a note of local Embassies and Consulates.
Documents and Emergency Contacts
It's a good idea to have a printed of your important documents. This includes: Passport, Certificate of Insurance and your drivers licence. your emergency contacts. Do not include passwords or sensitive information. Along with this information note down important phone numbers (don't forget the Country prefix).
Money
A Travel Money Card is an easy way to carry multiple currencies. There are lots of options out there, but I use Wise. Feel free to use my referral link.. I always have a backup payment method (Visa & Mastercard). I also recommend purchasing some local cash - Travelx is available in Auckland and Christchurch.
Data Roaming
Data Roaming can get very expensive quickly. I've found OneNZ is the best value for longer trips as they offer a competitive daily rate for data. I recommend staying away from unknown WIFI sources as these can leave you vulnerable to hackers.
